Top 5 Slots Jargon Terms

If you read one of our SFSG game reviews and didn’t have a clue what we were on about, you’ve come to the right place! It can be difficult to wrap your head around all the mysterious slots lingo out there, but we’ve tried our best to make things a little easier to understand. Here’s our rundown of the Top 5 most commonly used slots jargon terms – busted!

5) Max Bet

Also referred to as ‘Bet Max’, this is the maximum total bet that you can wager on a single spin. Put simply, multiplying the maximum number of paylines in the game by the highest possible line bet will produce your Max Bet. For example, if you are playing a slot with a total of 10 fixed paylines at a maximum of £1 per line, your Max Bet per spin would be £10. Luckily, most slot games have a handy Max Bet button so you don’t have to spend your time scribbling down numbers trying to work it out. Simply hit that Max Bet button and you’ll be spinning with the highest possible bet.

4) Cascading Reels

When you land a winning combination in a regular slot game, you collect a single payout and the reels only move on again the next time you spin… but find a slot with ‘Cascading’, ‘Tumbling’ or ‘Rolling’ reels and you’re in for an extra treat! This bonus feature is exciting because any winning combination symbols will vanish, allowing symbols above to drop down into the gaps left in the reels. If a new winning combination is created, you’ll boost your total win for the spin!

3) Multiplier

If you score one of these, it’s good news! A multiplier is basically a fancy term for a bonus win. It’s usually awarded when a special feature is triggered in-game and the amount you receive depends on your chosen line bet. For instance, if you win with a 3x multiplier active, you will collect three times your line bet for that one spin! It goes without saying that the higher your line bet, the higher your multiplier return will be. Multipliers can also be activated by certain big winning combinations.

2) Scatter

Not all slot game symbols behave themselves, and a Scatter is the perfect example of a bonus symbol that doesn’t like to play by the rules. Here’s why we love this naughty little symbol. Rather than relying completely on paylines, the appearance of a Scatter – quite literally scattered across the reels – can reward you on its own! Depending on which slot you are playing, it can also trigger a spectacular bonus feature such as a mini game. Bring on the Scatters!

1) Wild

Topping our jargon countdown is the ambiguous yet extremely common ‘Wild’. True to its name, the Wild symbol can take on some pretty crazy characteristics. What does it do, you ask? Well, in its simplest form, a Wild has the power to substitute for other symbols, sometimes also adding a multiplier treat of its own to top up your win! So if you only have 2 out of 3 matching symbols required for a win, a Wild landing in the right place can step in for that missing third symbol to complete the combo and earn you a hefty payout! It’s worth noting that the only symbols the Wild cannot replace are the equally feisty Scatter and any other in-game bonus symbols that have a mind of their own.

As you’d expect, not all Wilds behave in the same way either. Whether you stumble across Stacked Wilds that work by forming a complete portrait across one of the reels to land you a picture perfect payout or Expanding Wilds that stretch over multiple reels for a big combo win, there are heaps of different and exciting types to discover. Get playing and see if you can catch one!
